Great Salkeld sits between the high fells of the North Pennines and the Lake District National Park in the Eden Valley which is, as the name implies, a little bit of heaven here on earth.

Small, unspoilt villages mark the route of the River Eden as it flows from near Appleby through Carlisle and into the Irish Sea. In the valley there is a wealth of animal and bird life, including deer, red squirrels, buzzards, curlews, oyster catchers, cormorants, peregrine falcons, sparrowhawks and many other species. The local lanes, some of which, apart from the new road surfaces, remain much as they have done for hundreds of years, are lined by swathes of lush, wild flowers in the spring.

If you enjoy dangling your tackle in the water we can arrange some of the finest wild brown trout and salmon fishing in the county. If you enjoy something a little more physical, there is no better way to enjoy the countryside than by cycling along the narrow lanes and sample parts of the coast to coast cycle way which passes nearby.
While you can enjoy the tranquility of the Eden Valley, the Lake District is a short drive away, but staying nearer to home there is a wealth of attractions to fill your day. Hadrian’s Wall is less than 20 miles drive to the north, and the area abounds with prehistoric sites such as Long Meg and Her Daughters at nearby Little Salkeld.
